President’s Message
Monday, October 5, 2009, marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Anodyne’s corporate history. On this day, Anodyne Health Partners, Inc. and athenahealth, Inc. have signed a definitive purchase agreement under which Anodyne will be acquired by athenahealth. After completion of this transaction, Anodyne’s Business Intelligence (BI) Division will operate as a separate unit of athenahealth and will continue to market our BI solutions across all practice management platforms. Anodyne’s outsourced billing and coding business will not be a part of this transaction and will be spun-out into a separate company called AHP Billing Services, Inc., with my colleague, Lee Larson, taking over as President & CEO. We believe that by joining with athenahealth, we are not only recognizing a great strategic fit but have truly found the perfect partner for Anodyne. Both companies are healthcare revenue cycle experts and are fully committed to being our clients’ most trusted business services provider. Additionally, by shunning our industry’s status quo of promoting “on-premise” software solutions in favor of pioneering the use of the internet to deliver our services, both companies are committed to a Software-as-a-Service business model along with its many advantages for our clients. In reaching this decision, we have remained true to our core principle of placing our clients’ results first. The strength of athenahealth’s reputation and financial resources will allow us to accelerate our product development plans and to further improve the delivery of our services. Jonathan Bush, athenahealth’s Chairman and CEO, has built perhaps the top team of healthcare revenue cycle experts in the industry. Along with this experience and depth of athenahealth’s management team, the incredible wealth of practice management, reimbursement, and payer knowledge data accumulated by athenahealth as well as athenahealth’s position at the forefront of the pay-for-performance movement are but a few key examples of the benefits that will accrue to our clients as a result of this new partnership.
Recognizing that the announcement of our acquisition by athenahealth will likely bring many first-time visitors to the Anodyne website, please allow me the opportunity to re-introduce Anodyne and to share my perspective on what makes Anodyne special. In the summer of 2003, the seven founders of Anodyne had aspirations to “build a better mousetrap” and change the world of healthcare revenue cycle management. From that beginning, we have maintained one primary objective; namely, to develop and deploy a new and disruptive ad-hoc BI solution that would transform how business professionals within physician groups access and leverage data.
To achieve this bold vision, our strategic path and business operations have been deeply rooted in three core principles. First, Anodyne hires only the best talent for every role because we believe that great people develop and deliver great solutions, while delighting their clients with extraordinary service. Second, we believe superior access to information is essential. Our proprietary, web-based BI software platform, Anodyne Intelligence, revolutionizes access to healthcare revenue cycle information. Through its unparalleled ease-of-use, interactivity, and speed, anyone within our client organizations can access data that was once thought difficult, or even impossible, to obtain. We believe healthcare professionals have been “crying out” for this kind of transparency for years, but to no avail. We also believe this transparency, and the radically improved results that it drives, will effectively transform the operations of the medical billing industry.
